The intimacy of expressing what we want
Some reflections on how and why expressing what we want is intimate and necessary.
Tell me No
Why I love when people tell me no, as well as an exploration of the systemic forces that impact our ability to say no. (CN: sexual coercion/assault, story is skippable)

Acceptance is not enough
A recent local survey found that 95% of respondents agreed that they are “very accepting of people from different cultural backgrounds.” However, acceptance is insufficient for a number of reasons.

An invitation to move beyond equity and inclusion
An article and panel interview for the Victoria Foundation Vital Signs, with the theme of Equity and Inclusion for 2021. The focus of our article is to move beyond equity and inclusion to explore anti-racism so that all Indigenous, Black, and People of Colour can live in justice, freedom, and wellness.

The trouble with uncritically prioritizing our nervous systems
Natasha and I are seeing more posts on social media about taking care of our nervous systems. We are so glad that people are learning more about themselves and their bodies! And also, we are sometimes concerned when posts uncritically advise us to “be around people who are good for your nervous system,” or something to that effect. As counsellors, we want to add some nuance to these conversations.

Abolish the Good Person
Why I believe we ought to do away with the idea of the Good Person and possible alternative models of being. I also share some reflections as a counsellor.

It doesn’t need to be productive to be worthwhile
Background information and reflections on this embroidery art piece.

A modest proposal for energetic reparations
I use the concept of reparations to propose a framework for energetic reparations. That is, reparations for the energy countless racialized people have poured into a white person’s (un)learning journey, as well as the energy white people do not need to expend over decades of their lives to understand, face, and/or challenge racism.

I love the intersection of my social locations + counselling practice
Reflections on and gratitude for how my social locations and lived experience enhance my ability to show up as a counsellor. Or, why being a Canto, chronically ill, queer, nonbinary counsellor of colour is such a gift.

Anti-Racist Blogging
How anti-racism and anti-capitalism are brought into my practice of blogging, including taking my time, cultivating a space of learning, creating community and collectivity, upholding a consent-based culture, and more.
